Custom Server Software: Meet Ruthenium

Why we stopped fighting single-thread lag and wrote our own multithreaded Fabric fork instead.

Most survival servers hit the same wall: Minecraft's server does almost everything on one CPU core. Add players, farms and explosions, and that single thread saturates while the rest of the machine sits idle. We decided to fix it at the source.

/What Ruthenium is

Ruthenium is our in-house fork built on Fabric. It keeps full vanilla mechanics while moving the expensive, parallelizable work - chunk loading, entity ticking, explosion calculations - off the main thread and onto multiple cores.

/What it changes for you

  • Steady tick rate even when a TNT array goes off across the map.
  • Bigger farms and contraptions than a vanilla host can handle.
  • Cross-play that stays smooth for Java and Bedrock players alike.
  • Fast tracking of new game versions as they release.

/Vanilla where it counts

The key constraint we held onto: Ruthenium never changes how the game plays. Drops, timings and recipes are identical to singleplayer. It's a performance layer, not a gameplay mod - which is exactly what true vanilla demands.
